The ceremonial meeting of the Presidium in honor of the 300th anniversary of the RAS was held in St. Petersburg on July 5, 2024. The meeting was held in a historic building on the University Embankment. Participants discussed the work of both the entire Academy and the regional branch in the Northern capital. It appeared not so long ago, last year, and became the fourth in the country. Under its leadership, there are 35 scientific organizations that solve problems at the local and national levels.
The speech of the head of the Council, Academician Sergey Fedorovich Bagnenko, was devoted to the work of the United Scientific Council for Life Sciences of the St. Petersburg Branch of RAS. He said that the council includes 64 members of the RAS, including 47 members from the Department of Medical Sciences, five from the Department of Biological Sciences, and 12 members from the Department of Physiological Sciences. Thus, the joint council becomes a kind of multidisciplinary platform, within which specialists from different fields work together. “This allows us to contact, get closer and conduct comprehensive research,” noted Sergei Fedorovich.
The creation of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences is a key stage in improving scientific research at the Academy as a whole, the academician believes. “We have a platform where we can exchange opinions and see each other not only when we go to Moscow.”
