On July 7–9, the first-ever visit of a delegation from Pavlov First St. Petersburg State Medical University — one of Russia’s leading medical universities — took place in Jakarta. The delegation included Vice-Rector for International Affairs, Head of ENT Department with Clinic, Professor Sergey Anatolyevich Karpishchenko, and Deputy Dean of Medical Faculty of international students, Victoria Aleksandrovna Gavrilina. The visit was organized by the Russian House in Jakarta and included a series of meetings with leading Indonesian medical institutions and universities.
As part of the program, the delegation visited RS Persahabatan National Hospital — a historic symbol of Russian-Indonesian cooperation, gifted to Indonesia by the Soviet Union in 1963. The delegates met with the hospital’s CEO, as well as with Director of Operations, Dr. Arif Rahman Sadad, and heads of specialized departments. The guests familiarized themselves with the history of the hospital’s founding and the contribution of Soviet doctors to its early development. Professor Sergey Anatolyevich Karpishchenko also delivered a scientific and practical lecture, titled "Interesting Clinical Cases in Otorhinolaryngology" to specialists and residents.
A meeting was also held at the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Indonesia with Minister-Counselor Veronika Anatolyevna Novoseltseva, during which the parties discussed prospects for promoting Russian medical education and developing healthcare cooperation.
The following day, the delegation visited the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Indonesia, where negotiations were held with the Vice-Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Pribadi Wiranda Busro, and the Director of Funding and Research Ecosystem, Prof. Debora Eflina Purba. The sides discussed the prospects of signing a Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Indonesia and Pavlov First St. Petersburg State Medical University. That same day, Professor Sergey Anatolyevich Karpishchenko delivered a lecture, titled "Training the New Generation of ENT Surgeons: From Knowledge to Professional Competence" to staff and residents of the Otorhinolaryngology Department at the Jakarta National General Hospital.
This visit was not only the first trip to Jakarta by a Russian medical university but also the first time a Russian university had visited RS Persahabatan — the hospital established thanks to the friendship between the USSR and Indonesia. It opens new opportunities for the advancement of academic exchange, medical science, and practical cooperation between the two countries.
The members of the Pavlov University delegation express their gratitude to the Representative Office of Rossotrudnichestvo in Jakarta, and in particular to Head of the Office Nikita Sergeyevich Shilikov and his deputy Maria Vladimirovna Khionaki, for the excellent organization of this productive business visit.
